Norcross
Rich with history, enjoying a major growth spurt and looking eagerly towards its future is Norcross, Gwinnett County’s 2nd oldest city. Norcross has the distinction of being the only location in Gwinnett County to have a district listed in the U.S. Register of Historic Places. The district comprises 112 acres and is located along South Peachtree Street, North Peachtree Street, and Lawrenceville Street including the downtown area.
But Norcross goes beyond its historic district. Way beyond. Calling itself “a place to imagine, Norcross extends along 1-85 through Beaver Ruin and South Peachtree to Peachtree Corners. The corridor of Peachtree Parkway aligns itself with Technology Parkway, home to many high tech research, application, manufacturing, sales and distribution companies. New companies are drawn to Norcross every year and unemployment rates are significantly lower here than in other parts of Atlanta and Georgia. Don’t work in Norcross and need to get to Buckhead or the Perimeter area for work? No problem. Norcross is a quick drive down I-85 to the I-285 Perimeter. From Peachtree Parkway, it’s just a few miles to I-285. Homes in Norcross range in price from the low 100’s on up –from townhomes and condos to single family homes, new developments and gated communities.
Norcross has two excellent high schools including Norcross High, a Gwinnett County Public School. Nearly just across the street is Wesleyan Private School. The Pinckneyville Community Center, adjacent toPinckneyville Park, is Gwinnett County Parks & Recreation’s third community center and the first in the western portion of the county. The 20,500 square-foot facility hosts kids’ summer camps and year-round classes for children and adults with a pottery studio, outdoor raku kilns, art classrooms, a dance/aerobics room, a community meeting room designed for theatrical performances, and outdoor classrooms.
For wonderful dining choices, there’s everything from Italian, Dominicks in downtown Norcross to Cajun food, Pappadeaux off Jimmy Carter and 85 to Mexican at La Parilla at The Forum, a gorgeous outdoor walking mall in Peachtree Corners. The Forum is home to a large variety of specialty shops and boutiques such as Barnes & Noble, Trader Joes, J. Crew and Swoozies.
