Midtown
Does urban bliss become you? For cosmopolitan in-towners, young professionals, empty nesters and culturally engaged families, nothing tops Midtown Atlanta, the Manhattan of the South. Once you find yourself in Atlanta’s 2nd largest financial district, you may not believe your eyes. Sure. OK. You most likely expected to see sleekly nestled high rises reaching up from Atlanta’s lush emerald green rolling hills. But did you know they actually scrape the 201 “sunny sky” days the city has each year? And all the while providing a thrilling visual accent to metro Atlanta’s suburban sprawl. What may truly surprise? The variety of lifestyle opportunities this big city ‘tude with a warm Southern heart has to offer. Be it a 6 bedroom Georgian mini mansion in Ansley Park or a 2000 square foot craftsman bungalow across from the park or an uber modern one bedroom loft overlooking 14th St and Peachtree from the 22nd story. Yep. This is Midtown. From the mid 100’s to the millions. An eclectic little place not so unlike an heirloom tomato used by many a Midtown farm-to-table chef. Why? Because Midtown is itself “wedged.” No, not within the layers of a tasty gourmet sandwich from the W.O.W. food truck on Street Food Thursday. But rather between historic downtown Atlanta to the south and its more opulent neighbor, Buckhead to the north.
Access to and fro this bumbling and peachy metropolis is a cinch thanks to the red and gold lines running from Midtown’s MARTA station (Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority.) Thankfully, the rail drops OTP’ers (outside the I-285 perimeter denizens) just steps away from high end shopping, fine dining and the arts at their very, very best. As if having the 4th largest arts center in the U.S., (The Woodruff Arts Centerwith the High Art Museum, Alliance Theatre, Atlanta Symphony and Young Audiences) wasn’t enough! Midtown is also home to Georgia Institute of Technology and SCAD (The Savannah College of Art and Design.) Atlanta School District’s and private school K-12 students have easy access to the crown jewel of Midtown in their own backyard, too. With its 189 acres, Piedmont Park is home to the world famous Peachtree Road Race’s finish line and offers more space and recreational opportunities per capita than Central Park. It’s an urban oasis along with The Atlanta Botanical Gardens which lines a side of the park. Also worth mentioning is how one can espy a fabulous view of Midtown’s skyline here. Where? From the highest point in the “gahdens” as one might sip cocktails there during the spring and summer.
